How can one be against window guards? I'm not. I just think it is wrong to legislate that landlords provide them. If you have children you should look out for them: you dress them, feed them, send them to school, make them look both ways before crossing the street. If you think it's necessary you should put up window guards so that they don't fall out of the window.
Clearly there are poor people who cannot afford them, especially when the law first came out and there weren't any "used" window guards. Nonetheless, why is it the landlords responsibility?
This is another example of the infantiling of the American public.
For every right there is a corresponding responsibility. What is not clearly understood in our mushy-progressive age is that removing these responsibilites undermines individual rights.
